Yet another image from Dog Mountain hike on May 30, 2014. This is looking West down Dog Mountain so you can see the Columbia River, and Wind Mountain. The wind was absolutely ferocious, so I had to take sooo many exposures to get just one where the flowers weren't completely blurred during the 1/8th second exposure. Dog Mountain in Washington is one of the best hikes in the Columbia River Gorge, especially in the Spring when the wildflowers (mainly Balsam Root) are abundant. The hike is quite strenuous, it starts at river level and gains 2800 feet of elevation in 3 miles, so the trail is STEEP! I was on a mission to get photos at the top of Dog Mt at sunset so I hiked straight up late in the evening without stopping, and made it to the top in just over an hour. I was a tired, sweaty mess at the top but went straight to work getting images of the magnificent beauty. It's pretty much impossible to get an image that properly shows all the beauty up there: rolling hills of wildflowers, river views, rocky outcroppings, winding trails, etc... so here is just one of many images I'll try to feature from this evening of photos. Hiking back down in the dark with a headlamp was an adventure too!
