Late last night the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) made an appearance all the way down here in Oregon. I was having a hard time sleeping with lots on my mind, so I got out of bed and noticed a friend had posted about an active solar storm (thanks Erika Plummer!). The numbers were definitely high enough to justify a trip out at this ridiculous hour to see if anything was happening. I tried a few spots and wasn't seeing much, but for a couple minutes there were these gorgeous green & magenta rays showing up (even Mt Adams is visible in the distance). I'm pretty sure the show continued on through the night but shortly after this image was taken, lots of thick fog rolled in, completely blocking any view of the sky. I'm thankful for this quick glimpse of the Northern Lights and am honored to share it with you all. Hope you slept well, because I sure didn't ;)
